Hansel Mieth Prize awarded in Fellbach

The 15th annual six-thousand-euro Hansel Mieth Prize, awarded by Zeitenspiegel for the best German-language socially committed magazine feature published or unpublished, went this year on April 25th to Jan Christoph Wiechmann and photographer Seamus Murphy for their feature on the Badeli family of Kabul, Afghanistan.

Two hours of music, onstage conversation, and donkey rides: The Country Air Festival in downtown Waiblingen outid itself, selling out copies of the latest issue in only an hour. That didn’t deter TV personality Bernadette Schoog from continuing her interview series with story subjects. Musical interludes were provided by the Hannes Bauer Band, transportation by Conchita and Balduin (led by Harald).

Country Air party on April 13 in Waiblingen

Issue No. 2 LANDLUFT hits the streets: On Saturday, April 13 from 10:30 a.m. to noon, the Alter Postplatz in Waiblingen will rock to the sounds of the Hannes Bauer Band. The lovely Bernadette Schoog of SWR TV will interview subjects of stories in Country Air #2 as well as the Lord Mayor of Waiblingen Andreas Hesky. Hannes Bauer is Udo Lindenberg’s guitarist and Waiblingen is (or was) a more historic city than you’d think (remember the Ghibellines from history class?), so don’t be late!

Book on Gottlieb Daimler now in stores

Renate and Karl-Otto Völker of Country Air magazine have published a new biography of Gottlieb Daimler with the Silberburg Verlag. The son of a baker, Daimler marketed his first gasoline-driven vehicle in 1886. His legacy is still visible in the Mercedes stars that dot the Stuttgart skyline.

Oliver Nolte of “dreaming fish film productions” has produced an advertising spot for “Country Air - The Rems Valley Magazine” to run in movie theaters. For those unfamiliar with the Rems Valley, it is a densely populated economic powerhouse packed with metallurgists and silicon merchants that retains significant scenic beauty along with quaint villages, prosperous beekeeping and winemaking industries, and a stalwartly unprofitable journalistic cooperative. Thus the spot’s dreamy romanticism.

With 188 pages and weighing in at nearly two pounds, the latest issue of the Remstal magazine hit bookstores on Saturday.

Hansel Mieth Prize winner for 2013

The Hansel Mieth Prize, an annual award recognizing excellence in socially conscious magazine reporting, goes this year to author Jan Christoph Wiechmann and photographer Seamus Murphy for their Stern feature “A Life In Kabul.” It told the story of five Afghan brothers, a story that mirrors the fate of an entire nation. The two will share the award of six thousand euros.
